Fire Mage Best in Slot

Welcome to our guide on the Best-in-Slot (BiS) gear for FireFire Mage! Here, you will find recommendations to help you optimize your gear for maximum damage and performance in raids and dungeons.

This is the stat priority for Fire Mage, which this guide follows:

  1. Intellect
  2. Hit Rating (17% Hit Cap!)
  3. Critical Strike Rating
  4. Haste Rating
  5. Mastery Rating

Phase 3 Best in Slot

Until you gain Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest Icon Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest (which you should, because it synergizes super strong with the T12 4-Set bonus and the talent Hot Streak Icon Hot Streak and Fire Mages do the most damage in Cata), any weapon from Firelands is an upgrade to the Phase 1 weapons. This list is still subject to changes, due to changes in the sim/new findings in the Mage Discord.

Important Note on Trinkets

The trinkets Theralion's Mirror Icon Theralion's Mirror and Bell of Enraging Resonance Icon Bell of Enraging Resonance from the Phase 1 Best in Slot sim within ~300 DPS (300 out of 44600 DPS, so only about 0.67% dps difference) of the Phase 3 Best in Slot trinkets mentioned here. So do not stress about getting the new trinkets, they are by far the smallest upgrades you can get in this phase. Darkmoon Card: Volcano Icon Darkmoon Card: Volcano + any of the other two Phase 1 trinkets sims within 200 DPS of P3 BiS.

Please note that this list is subject to many changes, as the WoWSims Cataclysm Mage Sim is still in alpha state and Blizzard has lately developed a tendency to suddenly change some mage-related game mechanics. Make sure to gem Veiled Demonseye Icon Veiled Demonseye in your head and chest blue gem slot to reach the hit cap.
